Chilled, or temperature controlled products such as meat, fish and dairy products require high barrier protection. These products are mostly vacuum packed or packed in a protective atmosphere to ensure optimum shelf-life. The packaging materials are processed at high speed and therefore require good sealing properties.
Vacuum packing
Vacuum packing chilled products extends their shelf-life. Flexible packaging is suitable for vacuum packaging, can be designed in a variety of shapes and has a luxurious appearance. You can combine the design of the bag with a nice print and additional options such as a zipper. The material must have high barrier protection, good flexibility and sealing properties. You can also pack chilled products with film from reel. Options include top and bottom film, top-seal film on trays and flowpack packaging. By choosing the right packaging the following options are important: minimal use of materials, high barrier protection, plus good processing at high speed.
Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP packaging)
Another way to make chilled products last longer is to package them in a protective atmosphere. This is also known as Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP). It involves packaging products in the presence of a gas, which gives them a longer shelf-life. The material used must have high barrier protection. Please contact us for options or advice.
Packaging made from a single material
Choose 100% mono-material. For effective recycling, packaging should be as pure as possible. We believe 100% mono-material = one material = the future solution in recycling. For temperature controlled products, it is possible to manufacture packaging from a mono-material. In traditional materials, films are composed from multiple raw materials, each of which gives the packaging material certain properties. The more different raw materials are used, the more complicated the recycling process.
